Creative City
to look, and not avert one's gaze;that is where all the art is, the passionand the city. people who do not look, cannot see canvas, or poems or
notes for happiness.
art does not begin with art,but in the eyes. the eyes are everything;when you look up at another, and look away without a smile,
you have killedeverything you want tobring home, oh citizen.

This specific poem caught my eye for several reasons. First and foremost, I found the form and the mere length of the poem captivating. It was interesting, was concluded without haste and managed to convey its meaning brilliantly in under fifteen lines. Sometimes simplicity and the basics are just as beautiful perhaps even more so than extremely long, disciplined and elaborate poems. Within our modernized world, it seems that art has lost some of its meaning; anything pure and valid is or has been corrupted by technology. The general population today is so blinded by modernization and progression that many of us fast-paced people pass by what truly is beautiful. ”Art does not begin with art, but in the eyes, the eyes are everything” This is probably my favourite line in the poem, it is so monumentally meaningful and applicable to everyone that it makes me want to read the poem repeatedly. Lastly, the conclusion was another reason I am so fond of this poem. Without exchanging something as small as a smile, you are ultimately corrupting all the unwritten rules our society abides by. A smile could potentially brighten one’s day, letting them see the beauty in the world and further opening their eyes to art, and not just on canvases. Forgiveness, love and compassion are all things we attempt to bring home but if we are unable to perform them ourselves, how are those around you expected to? When these powerful emotions are spared and not shared amongst many, who will be able to see the art?
